Default Something to prevent the spam bots from joining?

We've got a captcha form for when people sign up, to prevent spam bots from joining, but it doesn't seem to work very well, unless the spam bot I just banned was registered manually. I know some forums ask you easy maths questions (3+5=?), maybe we could implement that? Not sure how effective it would be against the spam bots, but it's worth a try.

Thanks for dealing with the spammers so far, I will deal with the matter later today so until then we might all need to keep an eye out for a few more.

I don't think he was a spam bot. I have moderated other websites and seen these people before. I think it was a real person who was spamming. Also, if you don't ban their IP address, they can still make another account.

On the forums I moderate and administrate we have a pretty secure setup, and these things still get through every once in a while. It's hard to tell if they're bots or if they're people.

It is also pretty amazing that we have less than 50 users and already there has been spam for "male enhancements" and porn. It disgusts me.

I have now applied pretty much every decent spam/bot solution out there, so we shouldn't receive any at all now .

My other forum runs this setup as well, and hasn't had anything in over a year now since I installed it. Thanks to all the mods who were on the ball in removing the spam members.

As to why we've received more today than before, I believe it's just that I have been carrying out so much SEO (search engine optimisation) work!
